What are Italian Charms and Italian Charm Bracelets?

Italian charms were introduced in the United States about 5 years ago. Originating in Italy, of course, these modular link bracelets have taken the States by storm. Starting on the West Coast and working their way east, all types of people are wearing Italian Charm Bracelets. You can often spot an Italian Charm Bracelet on your favorite celebrity or athlete.

Italian Charms have quickly become one of the hottest new jewelry items on the market. In our experience these are a great addition to any store. We sold these for 2 years in our retail store on the East coast as well as our online store. We just recently stopped selling individual charms and are now focusing strictly on wholesale sales. Click here if you need any help getting started with your Italian Charms business.

Are all charms the same?

All major brands of Italian Charms are 100% compatible with each other. Major brands include: Zoppini, Nomination, Puzzle, Unodomani, ROMA, Casa d'oro, Italia, Talexia, GP Firenze and Boxing (most likely any other brand you've heard of is also compatible). Let us know if you already sell other brands and need to know if they will be compatible. In addition, most major companies use quality products such as real, solid 18k gold with an enamel coating for protection. However, you have to be careful as more 'knock-offs' are hitting the market. These are usually imported from Asia and made with gold plating, not solid gold, and are often glued together, rather than soldered as the 'real' charms are.

There are also 'Authentic/Genuine' Italian charms and Non-Authentic Charms:

We sell Authentic Italian charms from the top manufacturers in the industry. These include. Unodomani, Brunoz Zanetti, Puzzle Talexia, and Roma, just to name a few.

We also offer a less expensive brand that is not made in Italy. The Pasante Collection of charms are still very well made using the same standards as in Italy, but they are not physically manufactured there. They are fully compatible with the more expensive Italian charm brands like Unodomani and Zoppini.

There are several different sizes of Italian Charms. 9mm is the standard size, but there are also 13mm and 4mm. Most people deal strictly with the 9mm, and while that is what we recommend that you sell, we do offer some of the other sizes as well.

ItalyCharms.com only deals with Genuine Italian Charms imported directly from Italy.

How is an Italian Charm made?

As mentioned above there are 'real' and 'fake' Italian Charms. While we don't know how the fake ones are made, we can tell you how Genuine Italian Charms are crafted. Generally speaking here is the process (most of which is done by hand!):

  • Flattening a gold ribbon to the proper thickness.

  • Gold strips pass through a mold that cuts the charms.

  • Applying solder to the back of each charm so it adheres to stainless steel.

  • Soldering charms to a strip of links.

  • Rinsing charms after a cleansing wash.

  • Charms are placed in a machine for drying.

  • Polishing the charms.

Who can wear an Italian Charm Bracelet?

Italian charm bracelets are not only for women. They are strong and sturdy and men feel quite comfortable wearing them as well. Particularly with the introduction of matte finish and gold-trimmed charm bracelets (offered by Puzzle), men are feeling more and more comfortable with charm bracelets. Roma has recently come out with a line of charms for kids. These are great to offer your customers who are hesitant to buy jewelry for young children. They are a less expensive than regular charms yet still hold up quite well.
